Yup, I fell for it. In my last post I was hyping up this big reveal from Timex. Well looks like I got trolled by Timex. If you read my last post “ Timex “Next Generation in Time Keeping”” You will know I was actually pretty stoked to see new developments in the watch genre. Timing was a little suspicious, some users on watchuseek hinted it might be a April Fool’s joke and that’s exactly what it was.
Timex released this video on how they discovered the 25TH hour.
“In 1854, in a Timex watch lab in Waterbury, Connecticut, Archie, an engineer, noticed a compass point Leonardo put in the naval of the Vitruvian Man – the blueprint of a 25 hour day.”
SO FIRST OFF, if Archie noticed it back then….. why haven’t they released this 25 hour watch earlier? Come on Timex at least make it realistic.
The comments have been disabled for the video and its performed rather poorly with only 5,800 views and 51 likes and 10 dislikes.
So the whole idea of this prank is that Timex found that Leonardo Di Vinci actually discovered there were 25 hours in a day. Timex being the first to discover this releases a watch where the minute hand goes around 25 times around the dial rather than 24. (Timex did not actually make this movement). It;’s marketing slogan/tagline is “What would you do with an extra hour a day?” followed by pictures that represent “Spending more time with my kids,” “more time to party,” and “more time for my passion.”
Many of us were expecting some absolute fire and a game changing watch or accessory from Timex but nope. Timex actually ended up releasing this version in a small batch for around $80. Sold out within a few hours. Props to Timex for this April Fool’s prank I am glad it helped you sell a few watches.
Two editions for the watch are available both sold out and I doubt Timex will be re-releasing.

A 40mm gunmetal, matte gray dial with a orange triangle to mark the “25th hour”, orange hands and a black leather strap.
$79.00 TIMEX.COM

A 34mm rose gold-tone case, silver-tone dial with a pink triangle to mark the “25th hour”, rose gold hands with a pink tipped minute hand and a bone-colored leather strap
$79.00 TIMEX.COM
One glaring flaw is the features of the watch on the website. I know its a prank but if you are going to do a prank you have to go all out and hit every detail. The features for both watches list it as a 24 hour watch. It would have been a nice touch if they changed it to 25 hours.
Is this the best April Fool’s prank? Nope, I think that prize goes to Victorinox Swiss Army and their collaboration with GlassesUSA.com to launch “Survival Rx Glasses”. Prescription Glasses with a Swiss Army Knife features.
