In January 2019, Marc the president and founder of Long Island Watch received a cease and desist letter. A wise person once told Marc “You’re really a nobody until you receive your 1st cease and desist letter.” So Marc was honored when he received it. I would be honored too, it’s like the big guy finally noticed the little guy even for the wrong reasons but they were still talking about you in their million dollar conference room. Good job Marc and congratulations!
Now Rolex sent the cease and desist letter because oyster and jubilee are trademarks of Rolex and only to be used for THEIR products. Well… LongIslandWatch has been selling the Strapcode oyster and jubilee bracelets for the Seiko SKX models. Since is not a patent or copyright just a trademark, LongIslandWatch can continue to sell the bracelets but under a different name.
The new names are:
- Oyster = Super-O “Boyer”
- Jubilee = Super J/Angus J “Louis”
I think Super O and Super J are better names anyway.
Marc is not to blame, he simply marketed them as Strapcode named them.
Marc is wearing two watches, on his left wrist is a 2006 Rolex Submariner on an Oyster Bracelet and on his right wrist is a two-tone Datejust on a Jubilee Bracelet. I think Marc wore these to give himself credibility to Rolex and his own viewers that he’s not just some guy tryna profit off these bracelets, but he’s an actual watch guy for the watch community. Kinda like one of those “for the people, by the people” sayings.
I think Marc making this video speaks volumes of his character. He wasn’t bragging “oh I got a cease and desist from Rolex!” Nor was it with the intention of saying “those motherf***ers at Rolex got some balls! Don’t they have enough money?!?” The whole purpose of this video was to explain the name change and it was a great video. Marc respects the trademark because at the end of the day as much as he wants to make money he’s a true watch guy for the community.
I am happy the letter did not deter him from selling the Strapcode bracelets.

WOW, my first fan mail!
Hey Steve,
Please find my review of “Rolex Tells LongIslandWatch to Cease and Desist” from watchandknife.com below:
At first glance I will tell you, the first paragraph is pretty funny. Pointing out that Rolex was talking about Marc in their “million dollar conference room,” very funny yet still a good point. Second paragraph, no criticisms here except maaaybe you could have put pictures of the straps (I googled them myself, thx.) Next we have another funny line “I think Super O and Super J are better names anyway.” Ah, so funny and agreed. Last paragraph, very sweet, always sticking up for your watch guys so very nice touch. Overall, I liked this one a lot, very sweet and very funny, great article 10/10. Can’t wait for the next one.
Follow up questions:
–
How do we get a cease and desist?
–
How do we convince LongIslandWatch to open a real store front?
–
Have you bought from LongIslandWatch before?
Let me know when you have time to discuss!
Thank you,
KP : )
KP,
Thanks for writing to me, so kind so kind!
If you are interested in receiving a Cease and Desist letter, feel free to use my name ncaffrey_watch. I will gladly send you a C&D Letter. I have many attorneys on retainer who need to be put to use.
To get LongIslandWatch to open up a storefront I think they need to move to NYC. They are a true watch shop, and with Marc at the helm the staff will also be true watchgeeks. Sadly I do not think there is enough demand in Long Island for him to open up a watch shop.
AND YES I HAVE BOUGHT FROM LONGISLANDWATCH BEFORE! Numerous times before and all Seiko’s too! My first Seiko 007 as well as the ones I gave as gifts came from LongIslandWatch. I have never had a problem with any watch or any transaction with them.
Thanks again for replying to my post! : )
Warmest, bestest, and coolest regards,
