Will the Fugue Fiction one sell more copies than Agatha Christie and be a NY Times Best Seller and join Oprah’s book club? Possibly, if they both allowed watches on their lists.
The Fugue “Fiction One” Mystery Dial is everything a kickstarter watch should be and it has a good backstory.
The Fiction One is the first watch out of the capsule collection based on literary genres.
Based on mystery novels, its no wonder Fugue decided to go with a mystery dial and smoke-screen pattern on the dial.
Available in two versions, “Dark Side” with vintage Fauxtina lumed hands with a a smoked black dial that is gray in the center and fades to black towards the outside. Remind anyone of the Sopranos Series finale just fading into black? The other version is the “Bright Side” a lighter version with white dial and aqua hands and dial markers that make it seem like the lume is always on.

Now the main reason I love this watch. The mystery dial that makes the hands look like they are levitating. This effect leaves so many people wondering how is it possible. Often times leaving people to think about it long after they saw it… or read it like a good murder mystery.
I am also so happy Fugue did not go with the generic “My grandfather was a big mystery novel reader and this is ode to him.” Nothing wrong with that, but every watch on kickstarter since Daniel Wellington came onto the map has some cheesy and funky story to try and help sell the watch. Not here. They are straight forward and this alone makes me excited about the brand even more.

You thought those two small details were cool? Wait until you hear about the team behind the Fugue Fiction one.
The main team, Founder Leopoldo Celi, is a trained watchmaker, Designer Marc Tran, designed for Jaguar, HYT, Moser, and Harry Winston, Distributor Manuel Jacob who was formerly GM of Zenith in France.
The final and last reason you should back the Figue fiction One (as if you needed more convincing) is that 4% of revenues generated from the Fiction One will go to Libraries without Borders.
And now onto the one turnoff from the Fugue Kickstarter Campaign…the price tiers. The pricing for Pre-Sale Early Bird was $229 and only for 10 backers. A very good deal. Next level is Pre-Sale and about $464 which is 43% off estimated retail Price! With 20 days left and only 30% funded I am nervous they might not meet their goal.
They should have priced it at $320, then $420, then $520. With a kickstarter price that is 50% this might hurt the brand later on after this crowdfunding campaign.
If you can overlook the steep pricing increases I think this may be a watch worth looking into.
