ISLANDER RED OCTOBER L.E. AUTOMATIC DIVE WATCH #ISL-REDOCT

Long Island Watch Islander, Red October Limited Edition of 200.

This is a release of the first 100 pieces, the second set of 100 will be released in the future if the first set sells out.

The name comes from the movie “The Hunt for Red October” which starred Sean Connery and also from a naming poll on youtube Mark did a while back.

The watch is based on the ISL-18 watch but features a red seconds hand.

The dimensions are 43mm case width, 14mm thickness, and 46mm lug to lug.

Using the NH36 Movement the ISL-RedOct is water-resistant to 200 meters with a Double Domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

The watch takes design cues from the yacht-master with the blue dial and Ceramic Embossed bezel insert. The watch comes on a polished center link bracelet.

Of course, if both sets sell out you can build your own “ISL-REDOCT” however you will not get the special caseback designed by Marvin Menke of Hemel Watches. The caseback features the Long Island Watch logo, compass, Red October replaces the usual outline of Long Island on the regular islander watches and xxx/200 underneath.

Youtube exclusive, the link is available only in the description to Mark’s video.

My thoughts;

It’s awesome to witness the first Islander Limited Edition and the development of Mark’s microbrand. However, simply adding a red seconds hand, polished center link bracelet, and a special caseback does not make this Islander worthy of a lot of fanfare.

One way to have made this limited edition stand out is to have “Red October” written in red on the dial at a minimum or different dial markers. I completely understand this limited edition is only $20 more than the non-limited ISL-18 but Mark could have raised the price, even more, to be able to incorporate something visually unique.

Nonetheless, this watch will sell out. Mark is making quality watches, packed with lume and good specs for an affordable price. I am a huge fan of the brand and I love my ISL-01 and I am looking forward to Mark’s future limited editions.

TJB Brass Collection Brass Mehlville Carabiner, Brass Pike Pocket Knife, Brass Stilwell Pen

The James Brand has released three of their most popular products in brass.

The Stilwell Compact Pen $65, Mehlville Carabiner $75, and the Pike Pocket Knife $120.

The cool thing about brass is the patina it will collect over time, fading from gold to darker brown.

My thoughts;

It’s nice to see The James Brand venture into different types of materials. Picking one of their most popular products from each category (Knives & Tools, Carry, Communication) and releasing a brass version shows this is a test run. TJB wants to understand how big their market is for brass. I expect these to do well and TJB to release perhaps an Elko version in brass next.
