Valentines Day His and Hers Watches PART 1

I think an important question to ask yourself when considering on purchasing a watch for someone else is what would they like? Are they into watches and love automatics? Or they have no preference and just wear a simple fashion watch? What do they currently have in their collection? Do they like big or small watches, how big are their wrists?

For the purposes of this article we will assume your Significant Other (SO) has a smaller wrist.

1. Corniche Heritage Watch Set

Starting off our list is this simple Corniche gift set in a dual box. Leaning more towards the fashion spectrum, this pair uses Miyota Quartz movement paired with a simple ceramic dial with “hand applied indices”. The womens is a 36mm case with a 6mm thickness and an 18mm lug width. The mens version is 40mm with 7mm thickness and lug width of 22mm. Very thin watches that are perfect for dress watches and will surely feel as if your not wearing anything. Both watches come on a alligator strap with butterfly deployant clasp. Additional straps are available for purchase on the site for $45.

There is also a special offer available where you get a free Corniche Bracelet when ordering a new watch. All you have to do is add a watch and bracelet to the cart, use the code “freebracelet” in the gift card section at checkout to redeem the offer (value USD 65)

There are three versions available of this set:

Rosegold with white dial $649

Stainless steel with white dial $649

Yellow gold with black dial  $649

2. Seiko SKX007 and Seiko SKX013

PHOTO: HODINKEE

Two watches very well known and respected in the community.  Diver watches that look good on bracelet, leather, rubber, NATO strap. The skx is remarkably smaller

Not posting a link for these because so many places sell them, but my go to shops are ebay and longislandwatch with the most affordable and secure options.

SKX007 is a larger watch with a case size of 42mm and 22mm lug width whereas the SKX013 is a tinier baby sized version of the 007 with a case size of 38mm and 20mm lug width.

The main difference other than the case size are different set of hands.

For more information on the two watches visit  IKNOWWATCHES for a more detailed breakdown and analysis of the differences such as weight, price, and dial.

3. Dan Henry 1964 Gran Turismo Chronograph and 1972 Chrono Alarm

What you don’t see on a lot of women are chronograph watches. Women will usually stick with a simple three hander watch usually from a fashion brand. The 1964 Gran Turismo Chronograph is definitely a conversation starter as it appears to be a vintage 60 year old watch. However it’s only a vintage inspired design without the vintage movement and fear of it requiring service or having to source parts.

Side note this brand is significant because on our first date I took the mrs. to Worn and Wound’s pop up shop and before their live podcast recording we browsed the selection of watches and Dan Henry had a section where i was able to walk her through who he was and what he was doing with his brand. This was right before the pop up shop was opened up for the weekend. In the display case was the 1964 Chronograph alongside Dan Henry’s other models.

Dan Henry was revealing something new and limited to 30 pieces on the first night of the pop up shop which was in 3 days. I live in NJ and the SO lives in NYC, when the special limited edition watch was revealed I told her to run to Chelsea Market so she could purchase it for me before they sold out. Just because she lives in NYC does not mean she lives remotely close to Chelsea Market it would have been a hike for her. It was a dumb joke, but to me it’s nice to look at a watch and be reminded of something else. This is not the specific watch in question but the brand is the same which she never heard of obviously before dating me.

Side note side note. I purchased this panda dial for my SO and gave it to her as an early Valentine’s day present. I told her that this post was sponsored by Dan Henry and I needed to publish this article ASAP or else I would have to send her watch back. Her response, “If this is a sponsored post you are in debt because I am not giving it back.”

So anyways this chronograph is elegant, 38mm, with or without date option using a Seiko VK63 movement (essentially quartz with the main second hand sweeping instead of ticking) Sadly this watch has a 19mm lug width so strap selection is limited buuuttt Dan Henry includes a leather strap with the purchase of this watch as well as a beads of rice bracelet. This is nice because it opens up the watch world to your SO and allows them to “MOD” a watch and do something most people hardly do which will lead to them wearing NATOS and realizing a watch can honestly go with every outfit and every mood for every occasion.

Now there are a lot of different color variations available for this model DATE AND NO DATE

$250

The his version in this set is the 1972 Chrono Alarm.

$350

A lot heftier with a case size of 41mm and 12.7 thickness the watch uses a Miyota OS80 quartz (JAPAN) with eight hands, alarm, 12-hour chronograph and date.  The interesting thing about this watch that makes it so unique is the added function of an alarm. The crown at seven o’clock is pulled out to turn on the alarm and pushed in to keep it off.

But I think  this combined with the 1972 Chrono Alarm make the perfect his and hers watches and I might be biased due to the story above but I think it’s suitable for other couples as well.

Make sure to stay tuned in the coming days for the PART 2!
